What I've Been Up To

Back once again.

Thanks to those who stuck around, waiting for me to post something... anything.

Things have been crazy since September... Let me get you back up to speed...

  • September was spent grasping desparately at the last of summer doing weekends at the cottage while  doing the odd design contract here and there, pushing the basement renovations along, and preparing for the arrival of Baby H.
  • October was all about the baby. Baby H-Bomb arrived on the 2nd and set the agenda for the month. He's awesome.
  • November was a juggle between the baby and 3 significant orders capped off with conference in Toronto for the last 5 days. Ugh.
  • December was all about clean-up: odd jobs from the year, getting the electrical done and carpet in the basement, getting family members to and from appointments. And then, on Dec. 23 - I shut down. The realization hit that for the first time in 18 years, I did not have to work retail/customer service/tech support over the holidays.  And I'm just climbing out of "mole-mode" now. It's a thing of beauty

With that said, good luck and best wishes to all in 2010. I will do my best to post more frequently. (that almost sounded like a resolution)

Oh, and don't forget to visit my OTHER Posterous Blog.

Problems With iPhone 3.1 Upgrade

I have noticed a few issues with the latest iPhone software.

The first issue is the carrier connection. I've noticed that when I go into fringe coverage areas - like my basement - I seem to be losing the carrier a lot more frequently. And then when I re-enter areas with better coverage, the phone hangs in "Searching…" mode. I then need to powercycle my phone to get the carrier back, which happens immediately without delay.

Does anyone know if there were any differences in signal gain settings between 3.0 and 3.1 or if there were any other setting changes that may have caused this to happen?

Second issue I've noticed is battery performance. Before the upgrade I could get well into a second day before charging. Now I'm finding it necessary to charge in the evening of the first day. Same question as above - has anyone noticed any changes between versions that may have cause this?

iPhone (Downgrade) Stickers

(download)

Got my Downgrade today! Woot!

Thanks to @LeilaMakki for a fun giveaway and speedy delivery! Give her a follow. She's awesome. The third and fourth pics are a business card she enclosed. Nice touch with the pic on one side, Leila.

I'll probably go with the oldschool Sony Ericsson T616. And Bry, the other SE in the 2nd pic is for you!

Look Away, There's Nothing To See Here

Apparently, a post I sent to the Posterous Support Forum has ended up positng to my site at stevenbyers.com. It doesn't appear in any of my Posterous sites, but it is now available for public viewing in the Posterous Forums. How odd. And yes, the post gets scrambled again. It's missing the angled brackets used for html tags. In the first line of my post you can see the orphaned tags for a new paragraph and a line break.

Well. Let's see what comes of this. Hopefully it's not like trying to add an image into a signature on an iPhone.

A Pirate Adventure

(download)

This was at Mooney's Bay earlier today. Had a blast. They dressed us up and boarded us onto a pirate ship (modified pontoon boat) and put on a great show for 1h15mins. We had fun hearing tales of ghosts and treasure, searching for treasure and battling Pirate Pete. Thanks to Captain Terrible Terry and his crew of salty dawgs at Pirate Adventures of Ottawa!
